Last blog we posted a picture of this bell:
Here's the story...
This is a Vanduzen and Tift bell made at the Buckeye Foundry in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is believed to be made sometime around 1866. After production, this bell spent most of its days in Northeast Louisiana on a farm that our family used to own called Buck Meadow. Back in the day it was the primary means of communication in the farming community and was used as a signal for almost everything involved in day to day life on the farm. Different rings were used to indicate morning, noon, and night fall, as well as calling meeting, emergenices and many other things. The bell now resides at Presqu'ile Vineyard in California. We haven’t decided where to put it yet, but it’s a pretty cool piece of history and I'm sure we will find the perfect home for it. Any ideas?
