Earth and spice dominate the nose of this deep red wine. To be precise, we detect five-spice, sandalwood, cherry, black raspberry, rose petal and hints of dried orange peel. Silky but mouth coating tannins and good acidity frame flavors of fresh red cherry, spice and everything nice, wrapped up by a persistent finish.

Wine & Spirits: Year's Best US Pinot Noir
“The 2013 vintage was a warm one in the Santa Maria Valley, so Presqu’ile winemaker Dieter Cronje included plenty of whole clusters in his pinot noir ferments to boost the savory qualities in his wines. This bottling, selected from top lots grown on the estate’s sandy soils, is laced with spice coriander and white pepper tones that perk up its smooth dark-cherry richness. Drink it with a country pâté.”
- Luke Sykora, Wine & Spirits, April 2016

Winemaker Notes
With each passing vintage, we gain more knowledge of the intricacies of our Estate, and how to best capture what our site has to say via the medium of Pinot Noir. 2013 was a vintage marked by drought and heat, and the severity of the season can be sensed in the power and richness of this wine. Though not without grace, there is a concentration not glimpsed in previous vintages here at Presqu’ile, a density that speaks to the character of 2013. We continue to be in awe of all our Estate still has to reveal, and proud of the singular voice that we’ve channeled thus far.
